Jesus Mateo De Castro leads the masters at Portugal Day 5M

I’m going to use this space on a weekly basis to try and sum up the previous weeks action.  I’ll do my best to troll Email, Facebook, Twitter, Strava, Running2Win etc for news/results but if I miss anything send it my way!  That said, big week and weekend for the Club on both the Road and Track.  Several individual wins plus an Olympic Trials “B” Qualifier and two Olympic “B” Qualifiers!!

It kicked off mid week with some impressive showings from CPTC members in the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge on Wednesday and Thursday nights.  Our women dominated both nights with the highlight being the overall win by Denise Mazzeo. Andrea Bradshaw, Alysia Dusseau, & Bevin Peters also posted top 10 finishes.  On the mens side Trevor Middleton, Greg Cass, Steven Rosenbaum & Jay Barry all performed well leading their companies (always good for some corporate face time).

Over the weekend the Road Men competed in NYRR Portugal Day 5 Mile, a club scoring race.  The Open Men were lead by the always consistent Matt Lacey to a 4th place team finish.  Also scoring for the team were Dan Seidel, Phil Falk, Will Davis & Greg Cass.  The masters men also finished well with a 4th in the 40+ (Jesus Mateo De Castro, David Greenberg, Takeshi Yamazaki), 3rd in the 50+ (Peter Allen, Chris Donnelly, Michael Rennock), and another 4th in the 60+ (Hank Schiffman, Harry Lichtenstein, Chip Olsen).  Full recap from David, also check out some pics from Michael Ahern.

On the Track our middle distance team headed up to the Donavan Bailey Invitational in Edmonton Canada.  Stephanie Herrick finished 5th in the 800 with a big PR and a US Olympic Trials “B” Qualifier!  Her time of 2:04.92 is also a new Club record.  For the men Julius Mutekanga took the win in the 800 with a 1:47:47.

A little closer to NYC a big crew headed over to the New Jersey Invitational.  This was a big meet for our sprinters and they shined with two getting Olympic “B” Qualifiers.  Jeremy Bascom ran 10.21 in the 100 for a huge PR and a new club record. Then Moussa Dembele put down a 13.58 in the 110m hurdles, also a new club record!

In other news check out this article at the Women’s Running site for some Healthy Summer Appetizers brought to you by our own Megan Katz,  Alma Marie Leibriecht, Nicole Falcaro.  Also a shout out to Jeff Dengate who completed the run up Mt Washington this weekend.  Why would you run up a mountain?  To get cool pics and data of course!
