From Lauren Carter of the Open:
This year’s Team Championships probably saw some of the best running weather we’ve seen for this event in years and not to mention a fast finish by our Women’s Open Team. Lead by Jane Vongvoracharti’s 28:56, the women’s open team took advantage of the cooler weather. Shattering their PRs, Andrea Bradshaw(29:12) and Alex Brown(30:07) followed Jane’s lead as the second and third scorers respectively. Nicole Falcaro(30:19) followed as the fourth scorer showing us all how fit she has become during her triathlon training. Erin Maloney(31:00) joined us all the way from Philadelphia as our stellar fifth place scorer. Our sixth and seventh scorers, Sarah Alaei and Katie Casto, returned to the road and showed us how much they’ve maintained their fitness with their respective 31:04 and 31:15 finishes. Christina Argueta(31:16), Jesse Mizzone(31:29), and Hannah Rose, who set her first 5M PR of 31:52, worked together and toughed it out to round out the scoring for a second place finish for the Women’s Open Team.
Our next scoring race will be the Autism Speaks 4M on Saturday, September 7th. Don’t forget to sign up!

Masters ladies 40+ had a fine showing for Team Champs! Blazing the trail was the fantastic Judy Stobbe, ending her track season and bringing the fire onto the road, in 33:54 (at 78.99% a hair away from that 80% grading). Chasing her was your little captain, still clawing back, in 35:39, and rounding out the scoring team, Iron Lady Audrey Kingsley, all engines are go, with 36:23. Also to note, Judy and Audrey (and myself) all did the Founders 5k last weekend as well, with Judy winning her age group, and Audrey in 2nd for her age group. These ladies have their games on!
And we had mad support! Next up the graceful Nicole Rodriguez, who not only ran 36:38 at the race, but went up to Boston that afternoon to do a triathlon the next day. Can you say Nicole “Badass” Rodriguez? Sue P (Veep Sue P!) had a great time out on the course, smiling her way to the finish in 37:57. If you get a chance to check out Michael Ahern’s photos from the race, hers are my favorite. Also on deck, and just a week back from Mexico, Maria Luz Caballero ran 39:19, her fastest race in 2 years of perpetual injuries. She’s been improving in every race!
I am in awe of our women’s 60+ team, who took 1st place proper in their own group, but 4th as well in the 50’s group. The 60+ women are superstars, Barbara Byrne, the legendary Rae Baymiller (mysterious like the unicorn, she appears unexpectedly and its wonderful), and of course Captain Sylvie Kimche. Nobody can touch these ladies. And there is power in numbers, as Judy Tripp and Caryl Baron were there to support. But, to me, the most special appearance was of Deb Barchat–after knee injury and surgery putting her on a unwanted hiatus of a couple of years, is back, to run not just any road race, but the team champs. Welcome back Deb, we missed you muchly!
Great racing by the women and men’s open teams, and our male masters. Amazing, all!
GO ORANGE!

The CPTC W60+ came in 1st once more in this double points race by a whopping 23′ (yes, minutes…) ahead of 2nd team Millrose. With the double points format of the Team Championships, the CPTC W60+ is now in 1st place by 11 points ahead of Millrose.
Barbara came in first for the team (as usual since she joined CPTC) in an excellent 36:27 good for a 87:04 AG%. She was first by far (more than 4mn) in her age group and missed scoring for the W40 team by a mere 5″….
Second for the team in an amazing 37:46 and a 96.41 AG% was our own legend, Rae Baymiller, who surprised us all by showing up unannounced…but quite ready to run!!!
She has just entered a new age group and came in first in her age group by almost 9mn!!! Her AG% placed her 1st in the AG competition as well! GO RAE!
Sylvie came in 3rd for the team in a respectable 38:16 good for a 89.30% (& was happy to be back to high 80’s AG% after 2 sub-par performances in May & June). She was also first in her age group by almost 5mn.
(FYI, our W60+ team also came in 4th in the W50+ age group which makes us jump up from 8th place to 5th place in that age category! Way to go! )
Amazingly we had another three W60+ runners in Saturday’s race: Judith reliable and steady as ever in a solid 43:41, good for 3rd in her age group, and for the first time in almost 2 years, Deborah Barchat and Caryl Baron, both coming back from long lay-offs due to injury & surgery. It was great to see them back on the roads! We’re looking forward to seeing them in many more races.
It was a great day of racing on a course not crowded thanks to the small number of team affiliated runners and the separate starts for men & women.
And most of all, thanks to the loud cheering from our CPTC teammates who had come in force to run and/or cheer.
Thanks to all and CONGRATS to all the teams for their great results (6 “podiums”: 3 first place, 2 second place and one third place!!!). Way to go coach Tony!!!
Thanks also to Michael Ahern, JR and Nigel for all the great photos
See you all on September 7 !
GO ORANGE!
