The Memorial Day Ridgewood Run is one of the oldest and most popular running events in NJ, and a short train ride or drive from the city. It attracts world-class athletes, local elites, weekend warriors, and of course many CPTC members.
This year, five of the ten CPTC members competing took home age group trophies. And unlike most races that hand out stylized trophies of a runner, the Ridgewood Run awards something unique – BMWs. Unfortunately, they’re not the kind you can drive home in, but toy model BMWs.
The first race of the day was the 10K. Steve Monte ran a 35:36, followed by John Kerner’s 36:37 and Cary Segall’s 38:26.
The 5K had six CPTC members toeing the line with Glen Carnes finishing 15th overall in 17:18 (2nd M35-39), Ellie Zambrano going under 20 minutes for the first time in 19:44 (3rd F25-29), Margot Sheehan 22:28 (2nd F45-49), Theo Spilka 23:01, Andrea Ostrowski 23:05 and Joann Galinak 25:38 (3rd F50-54).
The warm sunny weather kept the spectators mingling around for the third race of the day – the Elite Mile. No stranger to the event, Catherine Stone Borkowski had a strong showing, completing the race in 5:38 and taking home a trophy for the 2nd Masters female finisher.
