The CPTC silver foxes/golden ladies started the year with a bang!

The W60+ team (average age 69 – Barbara Byrne & Sherrel Harmon with the help of Sylvie Kimche) was 2nd to a much younger NY Flyers team.

The W70+ ladies (Sylvie, Deborah Barchat & Caryl Baron) were golden!

W70+ recap:

In the absence of Lynn Blackstone, (usually our 3rd runner), Caryl Baron accepted the challenge and got a late entry to complete the team and help us to 1st place!

Here is what Caryl had to say:

The day turned out better than expected—not too cold, and no precip, even a bit of sun. I’m glad I did it, and glad my reluctant (and oh, so slow) stand-in for Lynn resulted in a team first place.

Thanks Caryl! Hopefully we’ll see you at more team races this year!

Deborah Barchat was 2nd for the team – and 2nd in the age group in 30:33, a 9:50 pace.

Deb’s comments:

I do not have much to say. We got a lucky weather window so it wasn’t painful in that regard, but it was crowded & my knee started acting up, so it wasn’t the best race today but I was thrilled to help the team score. And really, what a team! Amazing results across the board.

Deb, we all hope your knee will behave again soon!

Yours truly, Sylvie Kimche, was 1st for the team and 1st in the age group in 26:06, a 8:24 pace and 83.24% age grading percentage:

I’m elated by my result today, considering that I have not been able to train for the past 5-6 months due to a bum knee (slight meniscus tear) and happy that my knee held up today… Physical therapy seems to be working! ?

W60+ Recap:

Sherrel Harmon was 3rd for the team in 28:05, a 9:03 pace, a very big improvement on her last 5k race.

Sherrel had this to say:

This was my first time doing this race in all the years i’ve been running. What magnificent views of the Hudson and New Jersey atop Fort Tryon Park.

I’m pleased with my performance as it was a harder course than the Race to the Finish 5k in November but quicker.

I was 50 secs faster today and had lots of fun.

Congrats to all for great times!

And super congrats to you Sherrel!

I was 2nd for the team.

Barbara Byrne was 1st for the team and 1st in her W65-69 age group as usual  in a speedy 23:41, a 7:38 pace and an excellent 85.58% age grading percentage (the highest for all CPTC ladies and 2nd only to Brad Kelley‘s 86.57% on the CPTC men’s side!!!)

Barbara’s happy comments:

The race today was very enjoyable.  Yes it was crowded, but it was great to see teammates again and the weather was perfect .  I left feeling happy, satisfied and recharged.

Thanks go to Wanda cheering a little before the top of the last incline.  She told me “you’ve got this” so I had to ignore the dry heaves and keep going.

Congratulations all of us for the good results.

And super congrats to you too, Barbara!

Meanwhile, our own Ivy Bell was at Indoors Nationals. She ran the mile on Saturday, March 2, in 6:52:14, good for 5th place in a very competitive field (FYI, this was her 2nd PR in the mile since she joined CPTC…)

Way to go Ivy!

So overall, a great day of racing!

Next is the UAE 10k at the end of April.

See you all then in ORANGE (please…!)???️?️?️
