On a pleasant Sat morning in Flushing Meadow (61°F & 56% humidity, no wind), the CPTC Silver Foxes were golden and  bronzed on a flat & fast course.

W60+ Team Report

Barbara ran a fast 49:06 (a minute improvement on her 50:02 in the Mini 10k the previous week), a 7:54 pace which gave her an outstanding 87.47% age grading percentage. Of course, she was 1st in her age group… no surprise here…? And not much surprise either that Barbara scored 2nd for the W50+ team and helped them to 2nd place team! Way to go Barbara!

Barbara’s words about her race:

My first time at the Queens 10k. I can’t say I was tremendously excited by the course, but did appreciate the sections where trees lent their shade, and running around the sphere was a diversion.   It was something of a struggle  (isn’t it supposed to be?) but happy to improve my 2019 10k time by a little.  Still working to abolish walk breaks!!

Congratulations teammates, especially the golden 70+ team who had a huge margin over the competition.

Sherrel ran a strong 1:00:09, a 9:41 pace and was 6th in her W65-69 age group.

In her own words:

Saturday’s race was work but fun. I was seeded in Wave 2 and the corral I was in forced me to bob and weave for the 1st mile around my fellow runners. Once I settled into a comfortable pace I was able to put my game plan into place. Twenty -six turns provided lots of tangents to run.

The cooling spray from the Unisphere fountains was glorious and  hearing  Coach Tony screaming my name around mile 5.5  caused me to rev my pace up as the 1k work out from last week popped into my head.

My goal was to finish strong in 59 anything but fell short by 10 sec. I told myself my hammy held up and overall I felt Fantastic throughout the race” this old girl has still got it going on”!

I’m looking forward to the Team Championships  Race in July.

P.S. Without you and Barbara I could not have maintained my Caboose position in the 60+ Team Awards For CPTC. Thanks!

W70+ Team Report

The W70+ team of Lynn BlackstoneJudith Tripp and Sylvie Kimche were 1st place team by a whooping 1hr 26min ahead of Mercury Masters…

Lynn was not at her best as she was just recovering from a back injury. Nonetheless she toed the line and finished so we would have a team. And her 1:20:19 still gave her 2nd place in her W75-79 age group.

This is what Lynn had to say about her race

At the Queen’s 10 K Sylvie Kimche and Judith Tripp ran good races – though both would probably offer disclaimers – and I, Lynn Blackstone crossed the finish line; CPTCs 70+ Women’s Team came in first.  Lots of fun on a good day

Judith was 4th in her W70-74 age group and 2nd for the team in 1:07:30 (a 3min improvement from the Mini 10k!…)

Sylvie, yours truly, was 1st for the team and 1st in my age group in 54:21, a 8:45 pace, and good for 85:36% AG%

I was hoping to run faster than the Mini 10k last week as the Queens 10k course is much flatter and faster (despite all the turns and congestion at the start). But it was not to be as my legs would not carry me… Thanks to Tony’s cheering at ~5mile, I was able to “finish with dignity” in a time only 12 seconds slower than the Mini (I seem to be the only runner of those who did the double – Mini & Queens 10k – to run a slower time at Queens 10k…oh well…).

Note to self: you’re not 40 anymore, you need to rest enough before a race .. ?

Great results from all CPTC teams. Congrats to all.

Thanks to Tony for cheering us on the way.

Next team race is the Team Championships on Sat July 27. But I hope to see a lot of you at the Front Runners Pride Run on Sat June 29, sporting our CPTC rainbow Pride jerseys! ???

Can’t believe I won’t wear ORANGE for once . ?

GO ORANGE!
