Our 60+ men took 1st over WSX by 10 minutes and 41 seconds; we dominated:

David Blumel, 1:30:50 / 80.07%, which was 35th out of 5539 men overall AG. 2nd in age group:

That was about 10 miles farther than I prefer to race. At least the finish came before the collapse.

Art Palmer, 1:33:18 / 77.95%, 67th AG overall men. 5th in age group. Last year 1:39:29 / 72.4%. His fastest was in 2016, 1:33:02 / 75.97%, but as you can see, Art’s AG% was significantly higher this year.

Noel Labat-Comess, 1:33:20 / 77.18%, 81st AG overall men, his fastest SI Half, 6th in age group, 2 seconds back of Art.

I missed 5th by two seconds. Arghhhhh!

Don’t take it so hard Noel, your effort placed you #7 on CPTC’s masters list for best performance 60+ in a half marathon. This is the current list:

1 Yasuhiro Makoshi, Brooklyn Half 2013 1:25:12, 60, 83.74%

2 Alan Ruben, Brooklyn Half 2017 1:29:08, 60, 80.05%

3 Arnie Green, Staten Island 1992 1:29:44, 60,  79.51%

4 Art Palmer, Brooklyn Half 2018 1:30:23, 61, 79.68%

5 Don Favre, NYC Half 2019 1:31:01, 60, 78.39%

6 Hank Schiffman, Brooklyn Half 2012 1:31:32, 62, 79.44%

7 Noel Labat-Comess, Staten Island 2019 1:33:20, 61, 77.16%

8 Charles Parchment, Brooklyn Half 2019 1:33:32, 60, 76.28%

9 Allan Dias, Grete’s 2013 1:34:52, 62, 76.65%

10 Joseph Simonte, Staten Island 1988 1:34:56, 60, 75.16%

11 Chris Neuhoff, Grete’s 2012 1:35:00, 61, 75.81%

Charles Parchment, 1:33:33 / 77%, 86th AG overall men. 7th in age group, 13 seconds behind Noel. Last year 1:32:32 / 77.11%. Last year was his fastest SI Half, by 61 seconds faster: 1:32:32 / 77.11%. In 2017 he ran it 7 seconds faster than this year:

I enjoy the field of racing it was a good day  the marathon the BIG one coming up  see you soon.  as always cool runnings

We all go through the fire when see all us running up and down it’s all God blessings at our age to be doing this like we are some BIG kids

Hank Schiffman, 1:43:13 / 76.39%, 96th AG overall men. 2nd in a dwindling age group of 30 men 70-74. Last year 1:39:05 / 78.75%. Fastest SI Half: 1:28:57 / 77.3%, 2004.

Alan Ruben, 1:43:59 / 69.94%, 363rd AG overall men. Alan’s fastest SI Half was in 1997, 1:13:21 / 83.3%, at a pace of 5:35. He’s run 41 halves with NYRR, 6 of them SI H.

Yasuhiro Makoshi, 1:53:58 / 67.06%, 536th AG overall men. Last year 1:33: 43 / 80.73%. His fastest SI Half was in 2007,  1:21:32 / 85.7%. He’s run 8 SI Halves. Consider that he has run 76 half marathons with NYRR since August of 2000, pretty much at a sub 7:00 pace from 2004 thru 2015.

Both Alan and Yasuhiro have had huge swings in their times these past few years. Injury and recovery cycles are quite hard on older athletes.

A perspective on our age group’s time: If we took the AG% of Benjamin Toomer, CPTC’s best AG% this race at 84.59%, and translated to a man 60 years old, he would run it in 1:24:21. Yasuhiro’s 2007 result was better.

In other races, Dennis O’Donnell has added these races to his CV since the Bronx 10 2 weeks earlier: the Sunnyside Mile, the Brooklyn Greenway Half, and the Bed Stuy 10k, where he took 2nd in age group.

As we did not score 70+, the Flyers picked up 12 points on our 70+ effort in the team point total. We are now ahead of them by 2 points for 3rd. If they field 3 starters/finishers for the Marathon, as they did last year, it will be anyone’s guess what Corbitt’s will do to decide who takes 3rd for the season.

Will we be able to field a 60+ team for the USATF Club Masters XC on the same day as Corbitt’s 15K? Will we have enough sufficient runners to hold the field at Corbitt’s and others to run the XC?
