From Matt Lacey:
Welcome back to XC Recaps!
To make up for lost time over the past few weeks, the CPTC Open Men were well represented at two cross country meets in the weekend.
A team of eight awoke pre-dawn for a trip to Westfield, Massachusetts, and the USATF New England XC Championships. The expectations were for a fast 8k course and stiff competition, both which came to fruition. The team was led by a resurgent John Kenworthy II, who ran an excellently paced race to place 16th in 25:13, a season’s best. John was followed by Matt Lacey in a season’s best 25:21. Ross Weller came next in a season’s best 25:47, for 34th. The rest of the back followed close behind with Carlos Jamison in 25:51, Jonevan Hornsby in 25:57 (season’s best), Stan Berkow in 26:00 (season’s best), Will Davis in 26:14 (season’s best), and Patrick Hynes, transitioning from his marathon focus to the softer surfaces, in 26:26. Collectively the performances were good for 5th place out of 11 scoring teams. Fear not, sights are already set to get a few of those teams back at the Club Cross Country National Championships on Dec 8th.

Closer to home, 14 CPTCers laced up the spikes once again at Van Cortland Park, this time for the Fred Lebow Cross Country Championships. After 3 consecutive victories in the Bronx, fortunes turned against us this week, and the team had to settle for a second place finish, a mere 7 seconds behind Urban Athletics. Romain Mareuil led the way in 17:45, followed by a well mixed team of masters and open runners. Sergio Soto came through in 18:00, then it was Derek Saveille (18:10), Armando Oliveira (18:18) and Glen Carnes (18:21).

Over the upcoming Holiday Weekend, many XC racers will return to the roads to dominate Turkey Trots across the eastern seaboard before focusing in on the Club Nationals in Lexington Kentucky on December 8th.
Have a great Thanksgiving, and look forward to plenty more race results in the coming weeks.
