From Lauren Carter of the Open:

Saturday may have a wet and dreary day, but for the Women’s Open Team it was a chance to shine.  Leading the Women to their 2nd Place finish in the Road Team Championships was Kate Pallardy.  Kate ran for a finish of 28:49, setting a small PR along the way.

Hot on her heels with a time of 28:52 was Cat Beck. Kir Selert finished her first 5M in Central Park as the Women’s Open 3rd scorer. Grateful to have survived, Kir finished in a time of 29:53. Lauren Carter finished just steps behind her in a time of 30:06, conquering the course on little training.

Lady Orange continued to cross the finish line strong with Katie Casto’s huge 1 minute PR of 30:14, thanks to cooler temps, and Alex Bernardi finished right with Katie in a time of 30:16.  On their push to the finish, they had passed Steph Herrick, who depsite some stomach issues in the final stretch, finished tough in a time of 30:19.  Andrea Bradshaw and Christina Argueta both ran strong to finish in times of 30:36 and 30:57, respectively.  And rounding out the scoring with a big PR of 50 seconds was Katherine Carrington, completing the race in 31:10.

Congratulations to all of our Lady Orange Racers!  Don’t forget to sign up for our next race on September 6th, the Autism 4M, which is currentlynearing capacity.

We’re a little late with this one, but everyone’s was a winner on the 4th of July!

The Women’s Open Team raced in several places in the North East this past 4th of July and had top finishes in every race.  Flying in from CO, Amy Kvilhaug ran a 20:18 and finished 7th overall, 3rd AG in the NYC Runs Firecracker 5K on less than 8 hours of sleep.

In Westchester, Alysia Dusseau conquered the hills of Putnam County in the Putnam County Classic 8M.  Despite the hilly course, Alysia ran for at 52:37 1st place finish.
Out on the far reaches of LI, twins Erin and Tara Conroy went 1-2 in the hilly Shoreham-Wading River 5K.  This sister match up ran 19:58 and 20:12, respectively, in this cross country reminiscent race.

From Ani Go of the 40+:

For once, it was ladies first for team champs, which traditionally had us in the later race. And one would think that Mother Nature would favor us the early start, but she decided to shed some wet tears on us. However, the cooler temperature made up for the inconvenience of rain!

There was a strong showing amongst the 40+ team, including the debut of Roberta Little into our fold! Roberta had a great race, with a PR (38:37) in this distance despite a terrible leg cramp in the last 800m! How many can do that? Congrats Roberta!

Our scoring team was led by the newly platinum blonde Judy Stobbe (34:55), gearing up for 5th ave by gracing the pavement with her talented feet. Says Judy: “Unfortunately the timing of this race wasn’t suited for a PR for me, but happy to run and it was a good workout …Gearing up for 5th Ave and XC…whoo hoo! The weather worked out to be nice…it has to be one of the coolest Club Champs in a long time!

Our next scorer was our Lady VP Sue P, disguising herself sans glasses in 36:38, appearing in the top 10. The Lady VP prefers the track to the road, but is still a great presence when she does choose to slap the asphalt. Right on Sue’s heels and rounding out our great team is Nicole Rodriguez, (36:48). Nicole’s plan is to tackle the hills of Harlem at Percy Sutton next, and chase down that mile on 5th ave.

From Judith Tripp of the 60+:

Our 60+ team was ably represented by Barbara, Lynn, Caryl and myself, and despite the weather we were glad to be there and happy to see each other!

Barbara, contending with a large hand cast which looked like it could double as a weapon, nonetheless ran a 40:44 for 1st place in her age group, running negative splits to boot. (She wants to apologize to anyone running close to her for the plastic bag over her cast flapping in the wind.)
