From Alysia Dusseau of the open:

A perfect spring day of racing for our first 10k of 2014; finally with the most ideal running conditions after that terrible winter!  Our Lady Orange had some awesome performances which brought us to a second place finish for the Scotland 10K.

Top finisher was Kate Pallardy bouncing back from her NYC Half PR and running a 36:12 to finish 6th overall for women.

Katherine Carrington (39:11) and Shawnessy Dusseau (44:27) both had PRs and Shawnessy finally happy with having a good 10K.  Newcomer Madeleine Cummings (41:34) made her debut in orange.  Alysia Dusseau (39:37), Kryssie Beneke (40:12) and Ambreleah Dusseau (42:45) ran as well as a final set-up race leading into the Boston Marathon.

While we were all racing the in the barley blooming Central Park on Saturday, Lauren Carter rocked the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler on Sunday with a time of 1:00:25!  Lauren was very pleased with her race and we hope she saw all the pretty cherry blossoms that are in bloom in the DC area!

Some of our other ladies who are running the Boston Marathon also ran the Spring Meltdown 15K on March 30 as a last set up leading into the marathon.   Alex Bernardi (1:02:41) came in third place for women while Veronica Jackson (1:03:47) came in fifth respectively.  Kryssie Beneke (1:05:20), Jacy Kruzel (1:06:18) and Meredith Kennedy (1:06:30) finished third, fourth and fifth place respectively to secure the win for the CPTC ladies!

Our next scoring races are the Brooklyn Half on May 17th and the Mini 10k on June 14th.  Update us if you are running either race and if you haven’t signed up for the Mini 10K, make sure you sign up soon!

From Ani Go of the 40-49:

ALBA GU BRATH (Scotland forever!)

It was a great day for the orange all around!  A chilly start, but spring calls with the sound of bagpipes.  The masters 40+ had a complete team of Judy Stobbe, Colleen McGurk, and Audrey Kingsley!

The scoring team was led by the Lady Judy, her 42:25 landed her just outside an age place win, but she did match her masters PR in the 10k!  This fine lassie had a rough week, having just gotten back from Oregon the day before.  Says she:

“(My) first two miles were fast…slowed on the hilly parts.  It’s a tough distance for me.  (Need) more tempos!”.

Lady Colleen followed with 43:16.  The bonnie lass did battle with Nessie in the form of Harlem hills at mile 4, but she fought WITH DIGNITY and finished in the top 10 of her age group!

Talent from the 50+ team was plucked, the third of our scorers is Ms Wonder Wanda Wang, back in the saddle, her 45:54 put us on the podium for 3rd place!  She also did double duty, representing for the 50+ team.  Lady Wanda reports that she was happy with her run, but needs to come back and train with the team.  Och, aye, my lady, we would be most pleased to have you work out with us again!

The Lady Audrey completes the ladies 40+ team with her strong 47:11, it’s terrific to have her racing again!  Thanks to her, we had a full 40+ team.

Congrats to the 60+ women’s (Barbara Byrne as usual doing double duty for the 60+ team, AND 50+ team), and open men’s team who also stood on the podium for 3rd, and our open women who took 2nd place!  And congrats to our 1st place master’s 40+ and 50+ men for their 1st place win!

Next up–get hipster ready, Brooklyn calls!

GO ORANGE!

From Sylvie Kimche of the 50-59 and 60-69:

The CPTC W60+ team of Caryl Baron, Mary Rosado & Barbara Byrne placed third in a valiant effort, behind Van Cortland TC and Millrose.

Barbara Byrne won her W60-64 age group – as has been her habit – in 46:34 despite a sore ankle (still a 86.65% mind you!).

In her own words:

I’m glad I decided to go and complete the team, would be a shame to waste Caryl and Mary’s efforts.  It was tough, I really didn’t enjoy my run, but the result wasn’t too bad.  My foot doesn’t feel any worse than it did before so that’s a good thing.  Think I will try to give it a week and see how it responds.  Might be resorting to the swimming pool as often as I can manage

So congrats Barbara! and let’s hope your foot/ankle heals fast and completely!

Mary, fresh off her 8k X-C race at the Worlds Masters Indoor Ch’ps in Budapest (10th in 50:01:50) stepped up to the line and was 2nd for the team in 1:03:32. What a return to road racing Mary! 2 races, 2 team scoring!!! Way to go! Congrats and thanks from the team and the team captain!

Caryl completed the team in 1:11:44 (64.67%), which will be good for 12th place in the age group once the results have be straightened out….

In her own words:

After yesterday’s wet and gloom, the sun emerged on a 45° day as I neared the sound of bagpipes in the park. I had picked up Sylvie’s bib and goodie bag at NYRRC. It wasn’t until after the race start that I noticed everyone passing me and looked down—I’d grabbed the wrong bib on my way out the door.

I struggled through the last few miles to finish in 1:11:44 (64.67%).

Well, it wasn’t too bad a race for the first 3 miles, but I lost it at 4. This is the longest run for me this year, so I guess that was to be expected

So congrats and many thanks Caryl for showing up, for your effort and for completing the team!

Barbara and Mary also placed 2nd & 3rd on the 50+ team, which came in eighth with Wanda Wang placing 1st for the team in 45.54.

You never know what effect your efforts will contribute!

Congrats again to Barbara and Mary for double dipping!!!

Sorry I was not here in person but I was here in spirits. Hopefully I’ll be back for next team race the Brooklyn Half on Saturday May 17.

In the meantime congrats to all the CPTC teams!

Bravo! as we say here in Paris….

Happy Spring to all!

Go Orange!
