From Jacy Kruzel and Veronica Jackson of the Open:

The CPTC Open Women’s team toughed it out, despite humid conditions and a deep team field, to come away with second place at Saturday’s Retro 4 Mile Race.  It was great to have Kate Pallardy back out there in uniform, leading the team with a third place overall finish.  She also grabbed the #10 spot in the CPTC history books, crossing the line in 22:49.

Veronica Jackson, fresh off her win at the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge, was our second scorer, in 23:34.  The third scorer was Jacy Kruzel, in 24:00, who enjoyed the male CPTC teammate encouragement that hilly third mile! With a huge 23 second PR, Alysia Dusseau sped through the line in 24:22.  Our last scorer, Elleree Erdos, hasn’t ran a 4 miler in awhile, but that didn’t stop her from running a fast 24:40!  Great races by Katherine Carrington, Madonline Fratt, and Dani Sturtz as well!

Congratulations to all the ladies who raced on Sunday. We hope to see you out in the park getting ready for the next team points race, Front Runners New York LGBT Pride Run on June 25th!

From Sylvie Kimche of the 50+ and 60+:

The W50+ team ran to a brilliant victory at the Retro 4miler Sunday. All 4 members of the team came out to run. Unfortunately only 3 can score….
The amazing Judy S led the team and was 2nd in her age group in 26:41, a 6:41 pace (for good measure, she double-dipped again, was the 2nd scorer for the W40+ team and helped them to their brilliant 1st place as well. Way to go Judy!!!)

In her own words
I went into this race as a solid tempo as I need to run a speedy 1500m on Thursday night.  I’m happy with my time, considering the conditions…but SUPER proud of our ladies’ team for rockin’ #1 in 40s and #1 in 50s and #2 in 60s!
The equally amazing Stacy was 2nd for the team and 2nd too in her (older) age group in 28:18, a 7:05 pace
In her own words:

I have to say that I went into this race with some misgivings.  I’ve been racing a lot; it feels as though ever week is either a recovery week or a taper week.  Diminishing returns, as you might imagine!  But I really wanted to run because it was a team-scoring race.  And the commute was certainly more appealing than the Brooklyn Half’s!  I out-performed my expectations, which were low:)  I managed to run 28:18.  My mile splits were 6:56, 6:56, 7:23, and 6:55.  So if it weren’t for that bear of a third mile, I would have been sub-7:00!

I had thought and hoped that I won my age group–perhaps mainly because I never saw the F55-59 category-killer Jane Lundy, but it turns out I took second to one Synoeve Brox who–at age 57–ran 6:18 pace and was the first female age graded!  She is from Oslo and runs for Adidas.  I later found out from my friend George Hirsch that she is Jack Waitz’s companion–and that she’s even faster than Joan Benoit!  So I guess I can’t be too chagrined to have lost to her  🙂
Sue P, our VP extraordinaire, rounded out the team with a 29:33, a 7:24 pace and was 5th in her age group. No comments from her….
Wanda W just missed the cut, finishing in 29:57, a 7:30 pace and 7th in her age group (however, her AG% was higher than Sue’s because she’s 2 yrs older…that’s the beauty of AG% as you get older…. 🙂
In her own words
Congrats 50+ team! we came in 1st!!! Love seeing my teammates, and the recovery run was fun! I think I am finally ready for training!

Congrats to all! You rock!!!

W60+ recap

The W60+ team came out in force as 6 of our members toed the line, and got a remarkable 2nd place behind the tough Van Cortland TC team.

As usual, Barbara B led the team in 31:41, a 7:56 pace, 2nd in her age group to Bette Clark the leader of the VCTC (but here again with a higher AG% than Bette due to the age difference).
Barbara was not very happy with her race but as she put it:

I was glad to “run into”  team-mates prior to the running (Deb, Judith, then Barbara and Rebecca, plus Sue and Judy). Then Ani, Wanda and Colleen afterwards.  Congrats to ladies 40 and 50 age groups

Judith T was 2nd for the team in 36:31, a 9:08 pace (which was faster than the previous two 4 milers that she has run lately) and was 4th in her age group.

Barbara F rounded out the team in 38:57, a 9:45 pace and 5th in the same age group.
In her own words:
I was just over one minute off my best time in 2015…but then I’m one year older….that’s my explanation.  Other than being humid and navigating around walkers just after the start, my race was fine. There was a light shower during miles 2-3 which was quite refreshing.  Discounting the 3 west side hills during mile 3, I did have negative splits and had sufficient reserve energy to sprint the last half mile
Deborah B, coming back to racing after her latest knee surgery ran 42:10, and Rebecca G ran 44:39.
The always cheerful Lynn B ran 44:44, 2nd in her age group and had this to say about her race:
Lynn again ran to her (lack of) training; 11:11 per mile; second place in age group of 6; will train more and better!

Congrats to all! Don’t ever forget that you’re an inspiration to all the younger runners!

Next race is The Front Runners 5 miler on June 25. See you there!
