From Lauren Carter of the Open:

It was a near perfect day.  The temperature was down and the sun was covered by heavy clouds, but the humidity, the humidity remained.  It was a small crew for the Women’s Open Team on Saturday, June 27th as they took to the roads to compete in the FRNY 5M.

Lead by Andrea Bradshaw, 30:45, the women forged ahead with the thought of taking home team prize money as well delicious popsicles.  Hot on her heels starting from the back of the corral was Nicole Falcaro finishing in 30:47.  Putting her best foot forward, Jacy Kruzel completed the race as the third scorer in a time of 30:52.

Starting a little slow, Lauren Carter hammered in a last mile for a 31:06 as the team’s fourth scorer, and Alysia Dusseau rounded out the scoring, crushing the 5M in a time of 31:22.  The women brought home second place and of course celebrated with the infamous post-race popsicles. (And now I will stop talking about popsicles)

From Ani Go of the 40+:

Love wins! And the masters 40+ ladies come in 2nd place, standing proudly at the podium in rainbow colors. Teiko Shigezumi, our only 40+ woman, represents strongly for us once again scoring in 35:33. The Wonderous Wanda Wang, also the sole representative of her age group of 50+, scores second with 37:14 and winning 3rd in her age group! Barbara Byrne, the most amazing of all, wraps up our scoring team in a lovely package, just a second behind Ms. Wanda, her 37:15 places her 1st in age group, as she crosses the line for master ladies 40, 50, and 60! Her hard work not only has her scoring through 3 age groups, but she grabs the gold and silver for the team in each one. That is greatness.

Next up is Team Champion on August 1st! Time to bring out the big guns!

Congrats to our masters and open teams as well!

Go Orange!

From Sylvie Kimche of the 50+ and 60+:

As luck would have it, the Pride Run this year took place the day after the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage in all 50 states. And the weather was cool, overcast and not too humid…so perfect day to race and celebrate!

Both the W60+ and W50+ teams came in 1st place!!!   🙂

In the W60+ category, our 3rd scorer was our long-time member Deborah Barchat who has been plagued by injuries in the past few years and stepped up to the plate so we could have a team.
While she’s not thrilled by her time and result (even though she came in 5th in the 65-69 age group) because, before her injuries, she was one of the fastest masters in the NYC area, we were thrilled that she was here to score for the team (otherwise, it would have been a no-show again). Many thanks and kudos!

So Deb, welcome back to racing and here’s to you staying injury free and improving your fitness and speed in the months to come!

The rest of the W60+ results is a song we’ve heard before:

Barbara was 1st for the team and 1st in her W60-64 age group in 37:15, a 7:27:00 pace, even though she did not push the last mile to avoid the discomfort she experienced 2 weeks ago at the finish of the Oakley Mini 10k. Her performance  was good for 2nd in the AG% competition with 87.68% (behind Gordon Bakoulis who took first honor this time with 88.10%)

Sylvie, your team captain, was 2nd for the team and 1st in her W65-69 age group in 40:17, a 8:03:40 pace. That was good for 3rd place in the AG% results with 87:50%

And… drum roll…the W50+ took 1st place too!… :-0

Leading the charge was Wanda Wang. Despite not running much because of being back at school to become a fitness instructor, she ran very strong & came in 1st for the team and 3rd in her W50-54 age group in 37:14, just under 7:27 pace.
Barbara & Sylvie were respectively 2nd and 3rd for the W50+ team

Wanda double-dipped and was 2nd for the W40+ team….
….and for good measure, Barbara tripple-dipped and scored 3rd place for the W40+ as well…. both Wanda & Barbara helping the W40+ to a 2nd place finish! Whoa… Amazing!

Thanks as usual to Tony and the cheering squad! Always appreciated!  🙂

As for Judith, if you’re wondering about her, she did not run the Pride Run as she ran the Solstice Run, a 14km trail race in Minnewaska State park upstate NY on Wed evening (06/24). She placed  3rd in the W60-69 age group (no 5-yr age groups in trail races…) despite “crawling” up the very steep climb to the finish.
Way to go Judith! Next team race is the Team Championships 5 miler on Sat Aug 1st. Our W50+ & W60+ should do very well as we have (almost) all our members running.
See you all there racing or cheering! Don’t forget the team photo afterwards and WEAR YOUR ORANGE! 🙂
