The first day of Fall proved to be a beautiful one in so many ways.  With a second race of cooler Fall air, it has become apparent that heat training has certainly paid off for the Lady Orange.  Led by Natalie Malligan’s 5:12 finish, the Women’s Open Team charged down 5th Avenue to a 2nd place team finish.  Maria Jangsten finished seconds behind Natalie in 5:16, and Terry Ballou double dipped with a 5:18.  Hannah Rose and Alysia Dusseau rounded out the Women’s Open scoring finishing in 5:24 and 5:26 respectively.  Both Steph Yang and Roberta Little posted 2s PRs on the day.

The Women’s Championship Mile also included our very own Rolanda Bell(4:43), Andrea Bradshaw(4:54), Steph Herrick(4:50), and Lorrain McKenzie(5:02) .  Each brought home a PR after warming up as a confident posse.

While these ladies were busy tearin’ it up in the mile, our very own Nicole Falcaro was busy reeling in another win in the Huntington Sprint Triathlon, where she posted the fast run split of the day.

Congratulations to everyone who raced this weekend!  It was a spectacular weekend!

Don’t forget to sign up for our next scoring race, Grete’s Great Gallop, on October 6th.

Masters 40+ ladies revved up the engines and set the asphalt on fire at the 5th ave mile Sunday, taking home silver!

Our first flamethrower is Tigress Terry Ballou with her 5:18 mile! That fire starting time lands her a 88.63% AG. HOT! She places 1st in her age group, and 2nd in her heat. NYRR has a great photo of her flying, legs eating the road.

Judith Ann smokes them (because she’s got them) in 5:33! its a 4second PR for her on the course, just off her all time mile distance PR by…4 seconds. Her scorching time earns her an AG of 87.59%. Get them next year, Judy! Onwards to XC season!

Veep Sue P fans the flames with her first 80% AG this 5th ave (81.55% to be exact), and rounds out the scorers at 5:54! A lady in the boardroom, a beast on the road. Sue is another fantastic runner who is great on the track, roads, and xc.

We had incredible support and performances by Wonder Wanda Wang (6:08–80.38% AG) and Andrea O (7:05). Wanda and Andrea have been busy with work, but couldn’t resist the call of the mile. These ladies are soon to ride into the 50’s age group. Looking forward to them doing some damage there!

Grete’s Great Gallop is just a few weeks away, and marks the definitive start of the fall. Watch the leaves turn as you run around the park, twice! It’s our next points race, so sign up if you’re training for a good NYC marathon! 😉

From Sylvie Kimche of the 50+ and 60+:

Sylvie Kimche and Barbara Byrne
On a perfect first day of autumn, sunny, brisk and dry, the CPTC W60-69 team of Barbara, Sylvie & Lynn took another first place in the Fifth Avenue Mile race Sunday morning… what else is new?….
…Well, unbeknown to me,  Diane Liebowitz – after a 2 year absence from racing – had entered the race (she ran 7:33, close to her performance from 2 years ago) and helped the W50-59 team to a 4th place finish in a total of 20:04 (a mere second behind 3rd place team NY Flyers 20:03….).
Welcome back Diane! It was good to see you race on Sunday!
For the W60-69, Barbara came in first for the team, as has been her habit since she joined CPTC… Without training (just coming back from a vacation trip in Tuscany) and therefore without high expectations, she powered down the avenue to a brilliant 6:07 (8 seconds faster than last year!!!), good for 2nd in her age group (behind, who else?, Kathryn Martin who had the best race of all women in the race and a world best: 5:35 at age 61 for a 103.84% AG!!!)
Barbara’s AG% was not too shabby either at 94.78%!
Your captain, Sylvie, 2nd for the team, had high expectations after the Autism Speaks 4 miler. Unfortunately, she was unable to fulfill them, running about 8 seconds slower than she was looking for…. Her 6:24 was good for 1st place in her age group and still a very commendable AG% of 97.74%, but quite a long way from that elusive 100%…oh well, may-be next year…. 🙂
Lynn completed the team, 3rd in her age group, in 8:42, a very respectable 80.01% AG.
Here are Lynn comments in her own words
“5th Avenue Mile was great fun; I hope to run it faster next year
I thought the event was really good and well done”
And about the beautiful photo of her on the NYRR website
” Did I think/imagine I was the winner breaking the tape!      :)”
Oh, Lynn, you’re always a winner!!!
Caryl also stepped up to the line to enjoy the race down the avenue with all the support from the CPTC cheering squad!
Here are her comments in her own words
“What can I say? It was a glorious day and I ran about 2 minutes faster than I expected, but nowhere near the 8:25 I ran in 2007. And believe it or not, my quads are a bit sore today. Does that mean a bit of “speed work” might help, even if it only looks like jogging to everyone else?”

Congrats to all the CPTC teams for their amazing results: 3 first place, 3 second place, 1 fourth place and 1 fifth place!!!

And thanks also to all the CPTC members – whether they were racing or not – for the loud cheering. It really helps!

You should all check the NYRR website for photos of the race with numerous CPTC runners in full glory!

Next point race is Grete’s Great Gallop Half Marathon on Sunday October 6th.
