The CPTC women are so badass that they scared off all the competition to notch an uncontested victory at the Harry Murphy Cross Country Classic. The team was lead by an impressive win by Andrea Bradshaw (18:33) who brought home one of the world’s most impressive trophies in the process. Mid-distance runner Maria Jangsten made the jump up to the 5k (21:17) as CPTC’s second runner followed by Catherina Centanni (24:01). Not to be outdone by the CPTC men’s masters runners, the scoring was rounded out by Sylvie Kimche (25:30) and Judith Tripp (29:56).

Some highlights from the day from Andrea:

“It was my first time running on the legit course in a while, since I hadn’t raced there last year and the course was under construction for a while. We had the usual mob of youngsters get out very quickly and die off, and of course ran through a whole bunch of cricket matches on the flats. I was definitely excited to PR, but was hoping to not lose as much times on the hills as I did. As exciting as it was to get my first NYRR win, I’m really not sure what I’m going to do with that trophy – I don’t really have anywhere in my apartment to put it! Also, the highlight of the day was definitely buying two pieces of carrot cake (one with nuts/raisins, one without). No trip to VCP is complete without some Lloyd’s!”

In what should come as a surprise to no one, the CPTC Men finished first at this past weekend’s Harry Murphy Cross Country Classic, a 5k on the Van Cortland Park XC course.

Jonevan Hornsby led the way in 17:03, for 4th pace overall. In what must have been a scintillating home stretch run, Ilan Hausner edged out Andrea Bradshaw (1st Place Female) as well as Giancarlos “I paced her fool” Zambrano. All three clocked Sub-6 minute mile efforts with times of 18:32 and 18:33. Even more impressive, this was Ilan’s first cross country race in 15 years!

Mohammed Lahseni came next for the Orange in 18:59, dipping under 19:00 and showing that Master’s runners should never discount themselves from factoring into the Open Team Scoring. Joe Kennedy rounded out the scoring 5 in 19:14.

A slew of XC newcomers tested their mettle against the Van Cortland Hills as well this weekend. Johnny Zhang posted a 19:42, Gal Cohen an always frustrating 20:01 (next time), and Nigel Francis came out with a 20:39.

After being inspired by these performances, it’s not too late to choose to run at our next XC race. The Kurt Steiner Cross Country Classic is coming up this Sunday, October 20th. Same Distance, Same Time, Same Place.

Until then, happy training.
