Congratulation to everyone who competed in the Fifth Avenue Mile! Great weather contributed to great performances. Although there is some debate about how much a possible tail wind aided the performances it’s quite clear that CPTC came to run. Even though most people (even the sprinters) are into the long base training phase of their seasons and the fall marathoners are pointed towards Chicago, New York, and Philly, a big group ran excellent races. Sixty CPTC members ran and there were several outright race winners as well as many near winners.

Vanessa Mazandi (20-29 age group) started it off with a win (5:03) in the 15-29 year old women s race. Sean Fortune won the men’s 30-34 race with a time of 4:33. Next up was Catherine Stone (45-49 age group) who won the 40-49 race in 5:13. Excluding the elite categories, Catherine’s time was the third best overall for women. In the men’s 40-49 race Anselm LeBourne was second in the race and won his 45-49 age group with a 4:29, which also placed him first overall in the men’s age-graded placing with an age-graded time of 3:59! Next up was Mary Rosado, who won her 55-59 age group with a time of 7:09. Silvie Kimché (60-64) followed with a dominant performance of 6:13 in the 60-69 race. Finally, Lynn Blackstone was the winner of the 65-69 age group with a time of 8:08. There were many (too numerous to mention) additional members with top ten age-group placings.

In the local elite races, we had four men and four women entered. Natalie Gingerich followed a very fast opening quarter-mile, and led for much of the race, just getting out-kicked by two people, running third in a fantastic road PR of 4:43.7. Natalie was followed closely by two-time past winner Kate Irvin in fourth 4:45.7 (also a road PR), and Aileen Conlon in a 4:49.9 PR. These three are now one, two, three, on the combined road/track top ten mile list.

For the men’s elite, Jason Ostenson (4:15.9) and Will Seidel (4:17.7) ran great races and moved up on the top ten mile list. Brian Mongeon also ran very fast with a 4:21.4.
