History
Central Park Track Club (CPTC) was founded in 1972 by Dave Blackstone with about 10 members. In 1973, the club doubled in membership to approximately 20 members. Since then, we have grown to over 450 members in 2020. CPTC was, and still is, one of the most competitive clubs in New York City. Since our inception, we sent four Olympians to the London Games, three Olympians to Rio and dozens of athletes to the National Championships and Olympic Trials. CPTC has won numerous National Team titles and many of our members are Masters National and World Champions. CPTC is excited for the future ahead and looking forward to celebrating our 50th anniversary in 2022.
Mission Statement
The mission of the club is to develop athletes for national and international competitions in track and field and long distance running; and to promote health, physical fitness and the achievement of competitive excellence through participation in track and field and long distance running competitions.
Performance Enhancing Drugs – Zero Tolerance Policy
In 2009, the CPTC Executive Board officially adopted a Performance Enhancing Drug (PED) Zero Tolerance Policy towards the use of Performance Enhancing Drugs. The Policy has the following resolutions:
- That CPTC officially support and adopt the USATF Zero Tolerance Policy; and
- That members be banned from CPTC during any ban imposed by USATF or any similar governing body.
The Central Park Track Club will not tolerate performance enhancing drug use and will do everything in its power to eliminate the use of performance enhancing drugs from the great sport of road running and track and field. Since CPTC’s 2009 resolution, USATF’s policy on anti-doping as well as the broader sporting community’s knowledge of and controls against doping have evolved, and the club continues to enforce the latest regulations.
