Tuesday, October 28—meet at 6:45 p.m., run at 7:00, post-run party at 7:30
The last episode of ER is being aired on November 13, but we will give you the front seat: Come for a run with Anthony Edwards, aka Dr. Mark Greene. The co-star of Top Gun (Goose) will lead you on a run over the last three miles of the ING New York City Marathon course.Joining the run will be multiple world record-holder and world champion Lornah Kiplagat. Lornah will be fresh from successfully defending her world half-marathon title on October 12th in Rio. You’ll also meet Pieter “Starbucks” Langerhorst, the coach of Lornah, Hilda Kibet (NYRR New York Mini 10K and NYC Half-Marathon winner), Chris Cheboiboch (when he was #2 in NYC), Kimutai Kosgei (who won the Amsterdam Marathon in 2:07 in his debut), and you might learn some secrets of a world-class coach.
After the run, hang out at Urban Athletics to celebrate the long-awaited release of More Fire, the big running book of 2008. The latest from best-selling author Toby Tanser (Train Hard, Win Easy the Kenyan Way), this work on African running has been dubbed “The best book on running” by reigning ING New York City Marathon and Flora London Marathon champion Martin Lel. One hundred percent of author royalties from the book go directly to building a children’s hospital in Eldoret, Kenya—the epicenter of the running world. A percent of sales from store discounts and refreshments will also go to the hospital fund.
“Read this book and learn how to run like a Kenyan!”—Olympic champion Ezekiel Kemboi.
