From Lauren Carter of the Open:
In their second race of the road racing Lady Orange brought their best. Lead by Aileen Conlon’s overall 4th place finish with a time of 36:16, CPTC Women’s Open finished 2nd overall. Not far behind was Ivette Ramirez. Ivette spent a good portion of the week fighting a virus but still manage to set a 70s PR, completing the course in 36:37.

The record setting continued with our 3rd place scorer, Alex Bernardi. Alex set a 14s PR running the course (and dodging a few people along the way) in 37:04. Christina Argueta ran for a solid finish of 37:23 as the Women’s Open 4th scorer. Rounding out the scoring was Veronica Jackson with a time of 38:23.

Other notable performances on the day include Alysia Dusseau’s time of 38:36, which matched her previous PR, Grace White’s time of 38:58, which was a 45s PR, and Meredith Kennedy’s 1 minute PR of 41:14.
Congrats Ladies! Some excellent performances!
From Ani Go of the 40+:
Och, aye, lassies, the gods were smiling on us that morn, granting respite from typical highland weather of wind and rain. Indeed, sunshine was had, and a few temperamental gusts were the worst we had to endure.
Following the charge of blue and white from the ladies master’s 40+ team were the fiery Colleen, blazing Judy S, the amazing Amy K, and your little captain, Ani.

Colleen scored for us first, in 40:20, yet another PR for her following her indoor track victory in the 1500m. Another podium finish as well, 3rd in her age group! Our second scorer came through like a banshee, echoing her performance at Washington Heights to score for the 40+ team, from the 50+ masters, Stacy Creamer. S.Creamer is back on the running scene, stronger than ever, finishing in at 42:45 and 1st in her age group. And we are so happy to see her!
Our third scorer was the super Judy S, her 42:52 puts her on the podium for 3rd place in her age group. Three is the charm for this lady as she is also fresh from burning the indoor oval with 3rd place victories in the 800m and mile. Also representing is the amazing Amy K, a full time coach in her own right, still manages to race for us during her busy softball season as head coach for the St. John’s women’s softball team. Her strong 43:49 places her solidly among the top 10 in her age group. And rounding out the gang is…me! Tentatively dipping my toes back into the racing scene, my 46:58 was a good workout and still put me in the top 10 in age.
Here are some deep thoughts from the ladies about their races!
Colleen has this to say about her race: ” Beautiful weather for our first Spring race and seeing so many CPTC’ers along the course really helped push me through — especially at Mile 5! I’ve been focusing on track and haven’t run a 10k in a while, so it was a great race to kick off the season of longer road races and warmer weather.”
Says the amazing Judy S: “My Scotland 10k was a wake-up call that I need more of Tony’s tempos! Coming off of indoor season, I definitely went out too fast the first 3 miles and paid dearly the last 3 miles. But, a good workout for me!”
Our 3rd scorer, the S.Creamer had a great time, and reflects: “Conditions were just about ideal…I’d last run a 10K in December (the Holiday 10K) and had clocked 45:06 then, so I was hoping to run about a 44:30 at Scotland. But I felt strong in the first mile even though it was so uphill and thought that I could maintain the pace I went out at, which was about 6:50. My friend and rival of 30+ years, Warren Street’s Jean Chodnicki, was in my sights from the start. I guess that since in all that time I’d only beaten her once (in 2000), she may not consider me a rival of hers:) Last month she beat me in the Washington Heights 5K by nearly a minute. But I managed to pass her at the three-mile mark when I felt that she was slowing down. I never looked back and finished in a time of 42:45–so a lot faster than I’d dared hope, and–a first this year–first in my age group. I was thrilled to later learn that I’d scored for CPTC’s 40+ and 50+ women’s teams, which was my inspiration for running this race in the first place. Looking forward to Brooklyn! Congrats to all who ran.”

GO ORANGE!

From Sylvie Kimche of the 50+ and 60+:
The CPTC W50+ & W60+ teams were on fire and took both 1st place team at the Scotland Run 10K Sunday morning.
The W60+ team was ahead of the 2nd place team (NY Flyers) by 22 minutes!!! The W50+ had a much tighter margin of victory, only 1:15 over Greater NY. But a win is a win….
Despite predictions of a downpour in a late email from NYRR on Friday night, the weather was clement enough, overcast at the start then becoming increasingly sunny and also increasingly windy, a nasty swirling wind that always seemed to blow in your face….
That did not disturb our valiant team members.
The W60 came “en force”. We had 6 participants.I think it’s the most we’ve ever had in any team race: Lynn Blackstone, Caryl Baron, Ellen Wallop (back with the team after a few years interruption), Judith Tripp, Barbara Byrne and your team captain, Sylvie.
For the 60+ team, Barbara as usual came in 1st for the team, 1st in her W60-64 age group in 45:54, a 7:24 pace, good for 2nd Master 50+ AG competition (& $$$) in 89.19%, despite feeling horrible and in her own words “annoying people with my labored breathing”. Well, keep breathing heavily Barbara, if it helps you achieving such great results! It does not annoy us at all! 🙂
For good measure and to continue her habit of double-dipping, Barbara scored 2nd for the W50+ team…

Sylvie as usual too was 2nd for the W60+ team, first in the W65-69 age group in 49:44, a 8:01 pace – not as good as last week’s 49:04 in the Spring Melt Down 10K, a less crowded race and easier course – but good enough for 3rd Master 50+ AG competition (and a few $$ too) in 88.86%
The 3rd person on the team was kind of a surprise as Judith was not sure she would do the race. But running she did – at a comfortable pace – and completed the W60+ team in 57:54, 4th in her W65-69 age group, a 76.30 AG%.
Ellen, in her first race with the team since 2000, was happy just to finish the race in 1:08:05. Congrats and thanks for re-joining the team! We’re happy to have you back and you need to get a team singlet so that your teammates can see you and cheer for you!…
Lynn followed Ellen in 1:11:31 and got 4th in her W70-74 age group. Way to go Lynn! When you reach your new age group in August, you’ll be the new kid on the block to contend with…. 🙂
Caryl had a really bad race but finished anyway as she’s tough as nails…Thanks Caryl for always being reliable!
The W50+ team led by Stacy also took 1st place.
Stacy was 1st in her age group in 42:45, a 6:53 pace, good for 1st in her W55-59 age group, 6th in the Masters 50+ AG competition in a 85.70%, her best AG% in a 10K ! (in NYC at least…)
Stacy double-dipped again (as she had done in the Washington Hts 5K in March) and scored 2nd for the W40+ team, helping them to a 2nd place finish. Way to go Stacy!
Second for the W50+ team was Barbara as I mentioned above.
Wanda rounded out the W50+ team in 46:48, a 7:32 pace and 74.34 AG%, despite not having time to train much due to her studies. She was 5th in her W50-54 age group. Congrats and thanks to Wanda for being another very reliable teammate.
The next team race is the Brooklyn Half on May 16.
Unfortunately we do not have a W60+ team for that race. Not sure that we’ll have a W50+ team either….
In any case, good luck to all the Brooklyn Half runners!
And Tony, thanks so much for all your cheering and encouragements! it’s always very much appreciated 🙂
