From Nicole Falcaro:
Sunday, October 21st: Kurt Steiner Cross Country Classic 5K, Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx, NY
The vibrant oranges, burnt reds, and stark yellows lined the perimeter of Van Cortlandt Park this weekend as runners in like colors whizzed by.
Leading the team win in the Kurt Steiner Cross Country Classic 5K this past sunny, autumn weekend were Cat. Beck, Jane Vong, and Ivette Mejia. Though the leaves were dry and crunchy, the grass was “soggier than expected” said Vong. However, the back hills were as hard as an unripe pumpkin. “Having just taught my students the definition of a paradox, I’m excited to give them a new example from the back hills: the feeling of moving my legs in running-like motions, but not moving forward at all. It was like one of those Escher drawings!” Schillaci quipped.
Nicole Falcaro and Kimberly Smith rounded out the team’s top 5, who made applesauce out of the team competition. Besides it being autumn, no one thought they’d fall down the steep hills. “Jane is a warrior! When she powered up freshman hill, it was like I was walking in comparison!!” exclaimed Beck.
Upcoming potential races include the Poland Spring Kickoff 5 Miler on 10/28 and the NYRR [Uphill] Dash to the Finish Line 5K (11/3).

From Matt Lacey:
Another week, another victory for the open men at Van Cortland Park. This week, over the 5k distance at the Kurt Steiner Cross Country Classic, Ross Weller led the way with a narrow second place finish in 16:24. Even though a *gasp* Triathlete *gasp* got the individual victory, CPTC clearly won the day, stacking 5 finishers in the top 10, and 6 in the top 12. Ross was followed by Matt Lacey, Jonevan Hornsby, Will Davis, and Phil Falk all within the next 25 seconds for a commanding team victory by over 20 minutes. In fact the next 5 CPTC finishers (Sergio Soto, Carlos Jamison, Romain Marewil, John Milone, and Glen Carnes) would have finished as the second place team, if allowed to score.
Not only did we dominate the race, but also the NYRR photo album. Check the link below for tons of photos blurred with orange.

The few weeks will be quiet on the XC front, but racing action will ramp back up in mid- November.
Until then, happy training.
