From Andrew Moore of the 50+:

Sorry for the delay in sending out the recap for the last race – I was waiting for the NYRR to pick up the correction for missing Stuart Calderwood’s finishing time – which made a big difference in the standings.  Stuart made a nice return to points races, taking first in the 50-54 age group with a time of 18:20. Close on his heels was Alan Ruben in at 18:40 and Coach Tony completed the scoring with a 19:23.  CPTC finished first in the men’s 50-59 age group edging out Brooklyn Road Runners Club – who would have narrowly beat us without Stuart’s time.

We had a solid turn out with some great performances, Kevin Foley finished 9th (19:36) and Chris Donnelly finished 10th (19:37) in the 50-54 age groups and Dennis O’Donnell  placed 8th  (20:47)in the 54-59 age group. The team was rounded out by Tom Raymond at 20:14, Oscar Garcia 21:24, Budd Heyman 21:42, Frank Morton 22:39, Stephen Bernstein 29:34 – good job by all!

Next NYRR points race is the always popular 5th Avenue Mile on September 22 followed by Grete’s Great Gallop half-marathon on October 14th – please register and put them on your calendar.

 Thanks!

From Hank Schiffman of the M 60+:

Speed and depth. Four of our guys were in the top ten men’s 60-64. Sid was first man 70-74 and it wasn’t even close.

Taconic RR has speed, but they didn’t show up with depth; we did. Our total was 5 minutes faster than theirs. Thus we ran to take first place Men 60+. Hallelujah. Our fastest guys had Backup with a capital B. We would have taken sixth men’s 50+.

CPTC is the gift that keeps giving; one surprise after another. Allan Diaz was our first scorer with 20.04. Unbeknownst to me, I was 5 seconds back snapping at his heels. Unless NYRR has it wrong, he is new to our team. He’s not on my contact list, yet he carried the day. Welcome Allan. Chris Neuhoff was our third scorer with 21:15. Backing these three up were Sam Mann, 21:38, Dan Molloy, 23:18, Harry Lichtenstein, 23:24, Kevin McGuire, 23:36, Phil Vasquez, 23:38, The Great Sid Howard, 23:42, Chip Olsen, 24:03 and Fred Trilli, 28:12. Eleven guys, ages totaling greater than 660 years!

This was Phil’s first race as 60+; welcome Phil.

Kevin is recovering very nicely. He has progressed out of surgery faster than I did with plantar fasciitis.

The honor to us all was running with Sid. All of us together could not fit into his shoes.

A shout to our Catherine Beck for nailing first woman overall. 17:15, yikes!

Last weekend Dan Molloy ran a national US triathlon in Connecticut, further earning our respect as a man of many hats.

And a big load and clear thank you to Allan Diaz.

Next, the 5th Avenue Mile, race of truth. Come to CPTC Tuesday VO2 max track workouts with our coaches and tune your jets.
