From Jim McQuade of the M40+:

Just under ten men in the 40+ category slogged through a hot and humid 4 miles for a fourth place finish at the Central Park Conservancy Run on Saturday.  The first five across the line were Jim McQuade, John Milone, En Pum Cho, John De Csepel, and Francis Nigel.  Also turning in nice performances were Michael Caggia, Andy Kiss, Kimihiko Oishi, and Fred Chiao.  Congratulations to all.

From Andrew Moore of the M50+:

At last Saturday’s 4 mile Run for Central Park Conservancy, the Men’s 50+ team fielded five runners and came away with second place in the team competition, right behind Brooklyn Road Runner Club and just ahead of Front Runners.  Alan Ruben again led the team in 24:24 (2nd place 55-59) with Arthur Palmer at 24:38(5th place 55-59) and Chris Donnelly at 25:16 (8th place 50-54) also scoring for the team.  Budd Heyman came in at 28:18 and Rich Shaver at 29:18. Thanks and congratulations to all.

The next race is the NYRR Team Championship race on August 4th. We need a good showing to keep atop the standings. Remember the Team Champs is a double points race. Please sign up and race if you can.

Also, a reminder to enter the Founders Day 5K to be held on July 28th in Prospect Park.

From Hank Schiffman of the M60+:

Nine of our 60+ men crossed the finish line at this year’s Central Park Conservancy 4 miler. To my ears it sounds like a record turnout during my tenure on the team for our age group.

Bob Holliday, Sam Mann and I scored. I was 61 seconds ahead of Bob’s 27:01. Sam ran it in 28:18. All 3 of us ran it at over 76% age graded. We were backed up by Chris Neuhoff, Dan Molloy, Chip Olsen, Kevin McGuire, Fred Trilli and Dave Delano, amounting to more than 540 years of experience for this race.

This event was Kevin’s comeback race. He did so very well, surprising us with his quick recovery and fine time. Kevin has proved to be the most dedicated member of our men’s 60+ ensemble.

For Rick Shaver, seminal CPTC member, this event marked a passage to men’s 60+. His commitment towards being the cat with the longest tail running the NYC Marathon should bolster our chances of making a podium spot at Club Night. Few of us have run as fast as he raced in his prime. Moreover, after all these years he still competes, dancing with the woman who brought him. Having people like Rick, Sid and Frank to share our training and racing contributes of the depth of the CPTC experience.

Here’s a big thank you to Bob Holliday for giving us that extra something to put our men’s 60+ into 2nd place in the standings behind those jolly hoofers from the north, Taconic Road Runners. We stand 4 points ahead of Greater NY and 5 in front of Witold’s. Bob, first I knew you were running this event was looking at the race results. What a pleasant surprise.

Yes, in this race we finished 2nd place to Taconic RR with Brooklyn RRC nipping at our heels in 3rd and Witold’s Runners in 4th. Well done lads.

BTW, if I have my facts straight online this race had been sold out, yet Fred said he walked into NYRR HQ a day or 2 prior to the event and registered for it on the spot. Is NYRR leaving open spaces for walk ins? Are positions opening up as registered runners cancel their spots? Should this be so and you have a yen to run a race that has been formally designated as closed, it might be worth your while to do what Fred did.

Onward to the Club Champs. Be there or be square.
