I couldn’t resist linking to this fascinating slide show on Slate about the corner of 125th and Lexington Avenue in Harlem; the photographer, Camilo Jose Vergara, calls it the most complex intersection in America, and the “best free theater in New York City,” with drug dealers, street evangelists, tourists, vendors, and strange characters all occupying the same small piece of real estate. In the summer, it’s also where nervous runners, some wearing orange, wait to catch the M35 bus to Randall’s Island and the sleek new track of Icahn Stadium. The next time you’re there, enjoy the spectacle; there are worse places to be stuck at the mercy of public transportation.
