Below is USATF’s announcement of the 2009 National Club Champs. CPTC will be returning to defend our combined team title from 2008, and will also be serving as host for the meet at Icahn Stadium. Approximately 1,000 athletes will be participating over the course of the weekend of July 10-11. For those just hitting their stride early in the summer racing season, there is still time to qualify for individual events; in fact, you have until July 8th to join the 50 or so CPTC members who’ve already done so. Please see here for the qualifying standards. For those who wish to volunteer or help sponsor the meet, please contact Coach Devon Martin at devoncoach@gmail.com.

The 2009 USATF National Club Track & Field Championships will be held at New York City’s Icahn Stadium on July 10-11.  This will mark the third time the championships have been held in New York since 2005.  The meet is sponsored by Strands.com and will be hosted by the Central Park Track Club, who captured the 2008 combined team title.

“We are extremely pleased that the Club Championships are returning to one of America’s premier track & field venues, in an area that is a hotbed for our sport and the USATF club program,” said USATF Director of Grass Roots Programs Andy Martin. “The 2005 and 2007 Club Championships held at Icahn Stadium were both big successes, and the meet continues to grow. We hope to continue that growth in 2009.”

At the 2008 championships in Olathe, Kan. the Kansas City Smoke captured the men’s team title and the Central Park Track claimed the women’s title.  Both clubs will look to defend their titles in July.

The Club Track & Field Championships is an event that supports USATF’s goal to enhance and expand opportunities for open level, club-based team competition.
