As you may have noticed, this week we have posted two first hand accounts of road races and track meets involving Central Park Track Club athletes. Andrea Ostrowski and Jim McQuade were kind enough to post write-ups for the Penn Relays and the Broad Street 10 Miler. When I first joined the club six years ago, most club members focused on the same ten or twelve races during the year. However, that’s clearly not the case today, as CPTC members participate in hundreds of different track meets and road races each year.
As our club continues to grow, it’s becoming tougher and tougher, if not impossible, for one person to accurately report on all the various meets and road races taking place. Sure, someone could post results and write generic recaps, but sometimes you just have to be there to give a complete and accurate picture of what took place. Only a first person account can truly capture the nuances and intangibles of an event, and it’s these intangibles that make the sport of running so interesting. As we move into the summer and into the heavy road racing and track schedule, I’m going to occasionally ask CPTC members to write race recaps for the website. So don’t be shy; feel free to volunteer to submit a race recap in the future. Your fellow teammates will appreciate it.
